Making Boards of Directors More Effective:
For Profit and Not For Profit Organizations
This seminar and consultation begins with an individual review of the specific
client Board of Directors. What makes great Boards great is always in the
rules and regulations. It’s the way people work together. The process includes
a presentation on the inadequacy of conventional wisdom concerning Board
membership and responsibility along with an analysis of the organizations,
Codes and Rules of Regulation, By-Laws, staffing and organizational
structure, job descriptions of senior management, Board requirements,
attendance, equity involvement, Board member skills, organizational history,
perpetuation strategy, and current business plan. Intended to decipher the
problems and issues facing a working Board of Directors, development and
seminar content is directed at building an effective Board. Five themes are
offered to

1. Create a climate of trust and candor,
2. Foster a culture of open dissent,
3. Utilize a fluid portfolio of roles,
4. Ensure individual accountability, and
5. Evaluate the Board’s performance.

The workshop can be delivered to a specific organization thereby enhancing
their individual Board of Directors. Prior review of the organization and
Board of Director information is necessary and pre workshop interviews may
be arranged in advance of the workshop. Building an effective Board
emphasizes five principles:
