product line management in the 1980s) is experiencing a major
resurgence in the health care industry. The model was first launched in
this industry in the mid-1980s, became popular through the early 1990s,
and then went into a long dormancy period. Lately, however, hospital
and health system executives are dusting off the idea and bringing it
back into their organizations. Although there are many reasons for this,
at the center of the movement is the tumult within the industry”.
